A COLLECTION OF RESOURCES UNIQUE IN NEW YORK STATE

The History Center's Franco-American Collection is composed of library, multimedia and archival materials that deal with the experience of French migrants to what is today the United States, particularly in New York and New England. The only collection of its kind in New York State, the History Center's materials shed important light on the Franco-American experience for locals and far-off inquirers alike. Because of the strongly French character of Champlain specifically and the North Country and Champlain Valley more widely, this collection is intimately linked to our local history collection and its depiction of everyday and extraordinary events in the community, many of which (like the Saint-Jean-Baptiste parade depicted above) married community celebration with Franco-American pride.
