Champlain Community Posters

Picture
Posters printed for Champlain's businesses, schools, civic organizations and municipal offices.
The Moorsfield Press was founded in April of 1919 in the Village of Champlain, New York, and was in business until the early 1980s.  The press printed ephemera for residents, businesses, civic organizations and municipal offices in the Village and Town of Champlain as well as the surrounding communities.  Over 60 years of community history has been chronicled by the press.

In 2024, approximately 1000 posters at the History Center were digitally archived and a finding aid was created.  The finding aid listed the poster's description, key words and year of the printing.  The poster descriptions also include the names of many bands that played in the Champlain area in the early to mid-1900s.  Upon request, the finding aid can be referenced by the museum's staff and used to find keywords on a specific poster.

A sample from the collection of posters at the History Center is presented below.  Posters printed by other printers prior to 1919 are also displayed.

Many posters have been posted on the History Center's Facebook page, often with additional information or commentary.
